Twitter Cofounder Jack Dorsey to Speak at Africa Bitcoin Conference in Nairobi
The Africa Bitcoin Conference (ABC) has announced that Jack Dorsey, co-founder and Chairman of Block, will headline as a speaker at its 2024 event. The conference will take place this December at the JW Marriott Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. This marks Dorsey’s return to ABC after participating in the inaugural edition held in Accra, Ghana.
Dorsey reaffirmed his support for the Africa Bitcoin Conference earlier this year during a Bitcoin event in Madeira, Portugal. At the event, he highlighted ABC’s efforts in promoting Bitcoin across the continent and committed to attending the Nairobi gathering.
“Africa is a region with immense potential for Bitcoin to make a real impact on people’s lives,” Dorsey stated, emphasizing the transformative role the cryptocurrency can play in driving financial inclusion.
Farida Nabourema, founder of ABC, expressed enthusiasm for Dorsey’s involvement, calling it a reflection of the global importance of the conference’s mission.
“Having Jack Dorsey on board is a testament to the global significance of our mission. We believe that Bitcoin can be a catalyst for positive socio-economic change in Africa, and events like the Africa Bitcoin Conference serve as a platform to materialise this transformation,” Nabourema said.
Advancing Bitcoin Adoption in Africa
The Africa Bitcoin Conference has become a central hub for discussions on Bitcoin’s role in fostering financial inclusion and economic growth in Africa. This year’s event will focus on the cryptocurrency’s potential to drive decentralization, expand access to financial services, and promote socio-economic development.
In addition to Dorsey, the conference will feature leaders, experts, and advocates from the global Bitcoin community. Sessions will cover a range of topics, including the practical use of Bitcoin, its open-source foundations, and its potential to address economic challenges unique to the African context.
Dorsey is expected to share insights drawn from his experience in advancing Bitcoin adoption and developing financial systems centred on accessibility and inclusion. His participation is anticipated to enrich discussions on leveraging Bitcoin and decentralised technologies to empower individuals and communities across the continent.
Building Momentum for Bitcoin in Africa
The Africa Bitcoin Conference has consistently championed the use of Bitcoin as a tool for financial empowerment. By fostering dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders, the conference aims to amplify Bitcoin’s impact on Africa’s financial landscape.
With Nairobi set to host this year’s edition, the event is poised to build on the success of previous conferences. It seeks to solidify Bitcoin’s role as a transformative force for economic participation and innovation across the continent.
